Like A Girl

It’s funny how I came across this video today that’s been going viral on the internet, because only a couple of days ago while I was watching TV with my sister (while on a short trip to Bombay to see her), did I notice something similar. It was a crime/detective show called Hawaii Five O on AXN, and the cops entered this military training camp. The chief/leader who was training some soldiers/marine in the pool was yelling at them for swimming too slow, and screamed, “Come on ladies, move it!”

And I looked at my sister and said – “Have you noticed that when they want to insult men, they call them ‘ladies’? Apparently that equals an insult.” And my sister nodded. And I said – “I notice things like that now-a-days… it happens everywhere and people don’t think twice about it.”

Then I thought to myself… maybe I should blog about this sometime.

Well… after coming across this video today, I decided I couldn’t have put it better myself.

And you know what.. I eat, breathe, live, work, run, play, fight, PMS, cry, laugh, drive and love… like a girl.

It’s Awesome. 🙂

Thanks for sharing this powerful video. The phrase “like a girl” has always bothered me. Sadly, it is so part of “the norm” in the U.S. that whenever I’ve said pointedly yet politely said something to people who use this phrase in a demeaning way, they’ve acted like I’m “making a big deal out of nothing.” But, we have to keep trying and it’s great to see a company pushing a positive message like this. I only hope it’s the beginning of more to come, not a passing phase.

It’s great that you point it out to others when they do it. It’s got to be highlighted consciously by everyone in their every day lives, even to themselves, else it does risk becoming another passing phase.
